The latest entrant to the crowded Internet browser market is the appropriately named Browzar, a tool specifically designed to protect users' privacy by not retaining details of the Web sites they've searched. Most Web browsers like Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer automatically save users' searches in Internet caches and histories. Users do have the option of deleting the history folder and emptying the Internet cache, but many people either don't know how to do that or tend not to, leaving a trail of where they've been online behind them in the browser.
Browzar is being officially launched Thursday but can already be run or downloaded from its Web site. Users don't have to register to use the free browser. Browzar automatically deletes Internet caches, histories, cookies and auto-complete forms. Auto-complete is the feature that anticipates the search term or Web address a user might enter by relying on information previously entered into the browser.

The head of Microsoft's open source lab is inviting Mozilla developers up to Redmond for some help in making sure Firefox and Thunderbird run on Windows Vista. The offer is part of a weekly lab Microsoft is holding for developers in order to reduce application compatibility problems.
With Windows Vista nearing its first release candidate, application compatibility has taken center stage. If customers' applications don't seamlessly work with the new operating system, many will hold off on upgrading. In turn, Microsoft has begun to seek out bigger developers and work with them directly.
For four days each week through December, Microsoft is hosting a Windows Vista Readiness ISV Lab. Although Mozilla competes with Internet Explorer, the alternative browser is also a top third-party application, and Microsoft's developer ecosystem is critical to the success of Windows.

Sun Microsystems plans to publish the first open source Java code by October this year, the company has revealed. Laurie Tolson, vice president of developer programmes and products at Sun, said at a company event that the first components include Java C and the Hotspot VM. The remainder of the code will be open sourced by the end of 2007.
Sun first announced that it would release the Java source code under an open source licence at JavaOne in May. The company is still considering the licence under which it will release the technology, and has launched a special website, Open Sourcing the JDK, soliciting feedback from developers.
"Our primary focus is to be compatible, putting programmes in place that people can rely on for compatible implementations of Java," said Tolson. Sun has also expanded its open source Java initiative with the Java ME technology that allows mobile phones to run Java code. It has not been made clear whether the mobile version of Java would be included in the open source initiative.
